What Are Affirmations and Do They Really Work?

What Are Affirmations and Do They Really Work?

A few years ago, I started a simple daily practice that would eventually become the inspiration for Drink Your Affirmations.

After reading the work of Masaru Emoto and learning about Veda Austin's research, I became fascinated by the idea that water may be far more responsive than we realize. Both have explored the possibility that water can respond to information, intention, words, and energy and that water may even carry memory.

While I know these ideas are still being explored and debated, they sparked a question I couldn't stop thinking about:

If our bodies are made up of more than 60% water, what effect do our thoughts and words have on us and what intention am I unconsciously putting into the water I’m drinking every day?

At the time, life felt heavy. I was facing challenges, questioning many things, and often feeling inadequate. I needed a way to focus on what I wanted to create instead of everything that felt difficult.

So I started experimenting.

I began choosing affirmations that reflected the beliefs and experiences I wanted to invite into my life. I would write them directly on my water glass so I would see them throughout the day as I drank my water.

One affirmation I wrote on my glass came from a book I was reading:

"Large, rich, lavish, and opulent financial surprises now come to me, and I am grateful."

About a week later, an unexpected check for nearly $4,000 arrived in the mail from an investment we had completely forgotten about.

Coincidence?

Maybe.

But experiences like that made me curious.

What if affirmations aren't really about changing the world around us?

What if they're about changing us?

Or perhaps both.

What if the words we repeatedly think, speak, and place our attention on influence not only our mindset, but also the energy we carry into our lives each day?

That question led me down a path of learning about affirmations, mindset, faith, and the incredible power of intentional thought.

What Is an Affirmation?

An affirmation is a statement you intentionally repeat to help strengthen a belief, focus your attention, and become the person you want to be.

It's not pretending problems don't exist.

It's not saying words you don't believe and hoping for magic.

Instead, affirmations help bridge the gap between where you are today and where you want to go.

They remind you what you're working toward.

They help replace limiting thoughts with empowering ones.

And over time, they can influence the choices, habits, opportunities, and possibilities you notice every day.

Whether you believe affirmations work through psychology, faith, repetition, the power of intention, or the possibility that water responds to information, the practice remains the same:

You intentionally choose thoughts that align with the life you want to create.

And over time, those thoughts begin to shape the person you become.

Thank you for your support and for joining me on this journey. My hope is that Drink Your Affirmations helps you bring more intention, positivity, and joy into your everyday life. After all, the water we drink sustains our bodies—why not allow it to nourish our minds and spirits as well?

Here’s to becoming who we were always meant to be, one intentional sip at a time.
