Did you know that from birth until about age 7 or 8, your brain spends much of its time in slower brainwave states called theta waves?
Many researchers describe this period as a time when children are highly impressionable. During these early years, we absorb beliefs about ourselves, other people, money, health, relationships, success, and what is possible in life.
Think about it:
"Money doesn't grow on trees."
"I'm not athletic."
"People like us don't do that."
"I always get sick."
"I'm shy."
Most of us never consciously chose these beliefs. We inherited them.
The good news?
The brain remains adaptable throughout life. Through a process called neuroplasticity, we can create new thought patterns, strengthen empowering beliefs, and gradually replace old stories that no longer serve us.
The key is consistency.
Not force.
Not perfection.
Not repeating affirmations for an hour every day.
Small, intentional actions repeated over time create lasting change.
That's one reason I created Drink Your Affirmations.
Every time you reach for a glass of water, you are creating an opportunity to reinforce a new belief:
I am abundant.
I am guided.
I am healing.
I trust God's plan.
I am strong.
These simple moments may seem small, but they help redirect your attention toward what you want to create more of in your life.
Another powerful practice to pair with affirmations is meditation.
Meditation doesn't require any special equipment, technology, or experience. Just a willingness to slow down and spend a few moments with yourself.
Many people think meditation is about stopping your thoughts, but that's not actually the goal. Meditation is about creating space between you and your thoughts so you can observe them rather than be controlled by them.
When we live in a constant state of stress, our minds often replay the same fears, worries, and limiting beliefs. Over time, these thought patterns can become deeply ingrained.
Meditation helps interrupt that cycle.
Practices like mindfulness and meditation can help calm the nervous system, reduce stress, increase self-awareness, and create the mental space needed to consciously choose new beliefs. As stress begins to dissolve, we often find it easier to access creativity, intuition, clarity, and a deeper sense of trust.
This is one reason affirmations and meditation work so beautifully together.
Meditation helps quiet the noise.
Affirmations help plant new seeds.
Together, they create an environment where new ways of thinking can take root and grow.
The beliefs that shaped your past don't have to determine your future.
One intentional thought.
One sip.
One day at a time.
